Barbara Budrich Publishers - about us
Barbara Budrich Publishers was founded in May 2004 by Barbara Budrich. Before, she had
worked for some ten years as an editor with Leske + Budrich-then the biggest German publisher in
the social sciences-, a publishing house that had been founded by her father, Edmund Budrich, who
himself had managed Leske + Budrich for some thirty years. In 2003, Leske + Budrich was sold, thus, Barbara Budrich decided to start her own business.
On the one hand, Barbara Budrich Publishers offer publishing opportunities to young as well as
experienced academics. And thus, Barbara Budrich Publishers offer high standard literature for
research and teaching in the social sciences.
On the other hand, Barbara Budrich Publishers publish books that are meant for a wider, educated
public dealing with interesting subjects from the social sciences.
Barbara Budrich Publishers' list of social science publications represents the academic fields of

Many publications are in German. However, the list includes English language publications as well.
The German social science publication award-promotion
To facilitate first publications for young academics-in Germany often the equivalent to a PhD
thesis-Barbara Budrich Publishers give bi-annual awards to two doctoral dissertations. Only doctoral
theses from German universities are accepted. Ask Barbara Budrich Publishers for further details.

The material selected for publication in the open access area by a speed-up peer-review process is put
online for a fee for up to three years, after which time all rights revert to the respective authors.
